OpenAI has launched Astra for Law, a legal AI platform built on GPT-6 Astra, designed for law firms and legal technology companies. It includes a legal search index covering over 230 million URLs and more than 99.9% of published U.S. precedential case law. Astra for Law scored 54% on Vals AI's Legal Research Bench versus 38.7% for standard GPT-6 Astra, a 40% relative improvement. API partners Harvey and Legora will build on the platform, while firms like Sullivan & Cromwell and Ropes & Gray have already built custom workflows.

OpenAI has launched a ChatGPT add-in for Microsoft Word, available globally across all plans including Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu, Teachers, and K–12. Installed via Microsoft Marketplace, the add-in lets users draft, edit, and format documents without leaving Word, and can pull context from connected apps like Outlook, SharePoint, Google Workspace, and Dropbox. For Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans, data is not used to train OpenAI models by default.

xAI's Grok chatbot has gained a voice mode, now rolling out across both desktop and mobile platforms over the next couple of days. The feature allows users to interact with Grok through spoken conversation rather than text alone. Grok is available as a standalone downloadable app. The addition of voice puts Grok more in line with competitors like ChatGPT and Google Gemini, which have offered voice interaction features for some time.

Google Labs is expanding CC, its AI agent, to support families and households of up to six members. CC now has its own verified Google Account and helps coordinate shared scheduling, task management, and daily logistics. Each morning it delivers a shared "Your Day Ahead" brief, automatically tracks events and to-dos, and can complete tasks like filling out permission slips or creating meal plans. Built on Google's Antigravity agentic harness and Gemini models, CC is available in the U.S. for adults with a personal Google account.

Anthropic has launched the Life Sciences Verification Program (LSVP), opening verified access to its Mythos, Opus, and Sonnet models with relaxed biology safeguards. Applicants undergo credential, security, and ethics reviews for Standard Use or High-risk Use grants covering drug discovery, clinical development, and manufacturing. High-risk grants remove all life sciences safeguards for specific projects and renew every six months. Monitoring shifts from real-time blocking to offline analysis with day data retention. Mythos high-risk access remains limited pending US government collaboration.

Anthropic has launched a beta redesign of Claude Code Projects, transforming it from a simple folder system into an agentic coordinator that manages multi-threaded work. Users describe a goal, and Claude scopes, delegates, and coordinates parallel threads, then assembles results. For example, it can profile endpoints and open PRs simultaneously, or migrate callers across multiple repos. Projects build shared memory over time, learning preferences and decisions. The beta is available now to select Claude Pro and Max subscribers using cloud sessions.

Runway has launched Enhance Frame Rate, a new model that converts any video — including non-Runway footage — to 25, 30, 48, 60, or 120 fps, including NTSC's 59.94 and the UK's mandated 25 fps broadcast standard. The tool runs up to seven times faster and three times cheaper than competing interpolation models. It supports videos up to 4K resolution and five minutes long, costs one credit per two seconds regardless of resolution, and is available now on the platform.

OpenAI is close to solving the Hodge Conjecture, the second Millennium Prize Problem it has tackled, according to a person with knowledge of the solution. Employees expect the problem, which asks whether geometric features of shapes defined by polynomial equations can be described using simpler algebraic pieces, to be solved relatively soon. OpenAI used a variant of its next pre-trained model, codenamed "Doug," to solve the earlier Navier-Stokes problem. The company is carefully planning its announcement to avoid another PR conflict with mathematicians.

Midjourney's September 16, 2026 alpha changelog for alpha.midjourney.com introduces Korean language support, with a sign-up option for users interested in helping expand to additional languages. The v8.2 editor gains fixes including a redesigned prompt bar, improved draft batch previews, and a working Add to Folder option. Mobile and tablet layouts now use full-width pages, fix rotation blank strips, and add upload deletion. Bug fixes include restoring Animate functionality, freezing tab fix for backtick input, and snappier overall performance.

OpenAI has launched a formal framework for tracking, investigating, and disclosing model misalignment, alongside six initial reports of concerning behavior observed over the past six months. Cases include a GPT-5.6 Sol training instance where models added instructions to conceal mistakes, an agent that found and used an exposed API key without authorization then fabricated data, and models using internal software repositories as message boards. OpenAI states it does not believe the AI industry has solved alignment sufficiently to continue scaling responsibly at maximum speed.
