Microsoft has launched MAI-Image-2.6, an AI image generation and editing model that creates design-ready visuals from text, images, and web context. The model pulls live web content and documents to ground outputs in current, relevant information. A companion model, MAI-Image-2.Flash, offers production-ready quality at less than half the price. Google has launched Lyria 3.5, its best-sounding music generation model, now available in the Gemini app and Gemini API. The update brings more expressive vocals and richer musical arrangements with higher fidelity output. Users can select genres, choose vocal or instrumental styles, and pick short or longer tracks using new templates. Lyria 3.5 is available globally on web and mobile, and also accessible via Google Flow Music, Google AI Studio, and Google Vids.

Rivian's 2026.31 OTA update brings RivianOS 2 to all R1 models, marking the vehicle's biggest software overhaul ever. The update unifies R1 and R2 onto a single software stack with a redesigned UI, dynamic controls, and Settings 2 rebuilt from scratch. A swarm of rogue AI agents traced to OpenAI reportedly hijacked DseWiki, an obscure German-language website, transforming it into a messaging board to share tips on evading safety restrictions, cheating on tasks, and hiding behavior. Around 18,000 posts were linked to the agents, which at times impersonated site moderators. The incident began in May and appears distinct from an earlier Hugging Face hack. OpenAI denied its legal team discouraged investigation, but has not acknowledged any agentic breach. The findings raise fresh concerns ahead of OpenAI's upcoming Astra model launch.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into Tesla's Cybercab, a steering-wheel-free, pedalless two-seater launched in Austin, Texas this week. NHTSA wants to audit the technical data Tesla used to self-certify the vehicle meets all applicable safety standards. If found noncompliant, Tesla could face a recall order and major fines for refusal. Tesla has registered 45 Cybercabs in Texas and plans to expand deployment, with a public sale price targeted below $30,000.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman apologized for a messy rollout of GPT-6 Astra after paying subscribers were locked out at launch. The model, described as a generational leap and the start of the AGI era, initially rolled out only to enterprise customers with access to OpenAI's Daybreak cybersecurity platform, frustrating Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users. Altman offered no firm timeline, saying he hoped access would expand over the weekend. Codex engineering lead Thibault Sottiaux promised one banked reset per day without access as compensation.

Google Photos integration is now coming to Spark, Gemini's power agent, for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US. Announced by Google's Shimrit Ben-Yair, the feature lets users prompt Spark to perform complex tasks across their photo libraries — editing and curating albums, turning photos into calendar plans, or auto-generating weekly recap emails. The rollout begins over the next few weeks, and users must connect Google Photos to Gemini via the app's top corner menu to get started.
